THE VALLEYS OF LIFE

At times each of us may feel that we're wandering in one of the valleys of life.
We see the mountaintop, way up high, but can't seem to reach it. We may hear the faint echoes of others that are successfully climbing to the top, but we seem to be stuck in dried up mud at the edge of a parched riverbed in a valley far far below.
In one moment we may think we're making headway, oh, it's a small step upward. But then we realize we were only elevated because we stood on top of a rock. Pulling our weary feet out of cement-like mud and pressing on, we encounter yet another thirsty patch of barren ground dotted with tumbleweeds. (Oh, how we'd like to be tumbling up on top of that mountain.)
Another mile or two of repeat performance landscape and we've reached our mental, our physical, and our emotional limitations-and then it happens
From the depth of one's soul, hidden deep within the resources of our minds, we hear God's Words:
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
Ah, relief and hope once again. A true "aha" moment--there is His promise, for He will lead us to His high country and to the mountaintops of life again. When the pasture is bare and dry down in the valley, our God will lead us up to His rich and lush mountaintop. He will guide us and He will hold our hand. He will lovingly lead us in His paths of righteousness.
"Every mountain has its valleys. Its sides are scarred by deep ravines and gulches and draws. And the best route to the top is always through these valleys." (Phillip Keller, A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23)
God will lead His people gently, but persistently, up the paths that wind through the dark valleys until we reach His mountaintop once again.
